FUNDRAISING - kids in the community

In high school, our wrestling squad held a cheerleading clinic every summer for girls (and boys!) ages 7-12. Over the course of a week, participants would come each night for about 2 hours. They would go around to different stations where they would learn a cheer, a few chants and a dance. We set aside one night to teach them basic stunting. Also, at the end of each night they recieved awards for things such as "Best Voice", "Best Cheer", "Best Dance", "Most improved", "Best Spirit", etc. We made sure each cheerleader received at least one award!

At the end of the week we held a "Parent Pep-rally". All of the participants parents, etc. came and they got to show them everything they had learned during the week (They also recieved a T-Shirt to wear the night of the pep-rally). At the end of the pep-rally we had final awards where each girl/boy was given a certificate for their accomplishments.

This was a really fun way to raise a good ammount of money for the squad. Also, it proved to help the younger girls/boys in the community develop good cheer technique! Some of the girls who cheer varsity level in High School now have attended these camps!! It's really something to look back and think that you had a part in teaching them the skills that they have today!

Hold a babysitting program for the kids in your town. It works best around Christmas so the gorwn-ups can go shopping without the kids! It's great!!

We do a program we kind of founded for our school, it started out by the cheerleaders going to the local elementary schools and tutoring kids after school and at latchkey. It was really fun but then we got a lot of people and then they started donating money. The kids are always really happy with their tutor because they are so excited that high schoolers are at their school teaching them! If you don't make money at least it is a cool service project! We also have the PushUps! They are so cool, our whole town is into it! What we do is at local businesses and at our schools students, staff, parents and everyone can fill out a little sheet of paper, it says:
Full Name:
Phone Number:
# of PushUps:
Price if met:
and they can fill it out, at every game and local event we draw names and then we do the # of push ups on the card. We have done 78 before at one time and that one made us $50.00 and we can do them all the time! There are endless ideas for fundrasing you just have to think about them!!

A lot of girls in my neighborhood love to dance so I charge them like $5.00 to $10.00 to dance. I bring my radio outside and teach them up to 10 dances a day. They have a blast and beg me to teach them more. It's a great idea for girls or boys in 2nd through 5th grade, maybe lower.

In our area, elementary schools don't have dances. A good idea is to contact your feeder elementary schools (principals etc...) and see if they would be interested in letting you host a dance for the kids in their gym during lunch. Of course you'll supply permission slips, pizza, pop, D.J., and all that good stuff. You could also try to have the dance in your gym, inviting all the elementary schools. Have Fun!!

Our squad held a dance for kids ages 9-11 and 12-15. We charged $5.00 per person. For each dance we had at least 70 people! It was a huge success!!

One of our recent fund raisers was a kids camp. We had over 40 kids and made over $600! We had it from 8:30 to 3:00 and in 2 sessions. Some kids stayed the whole time. We got them shirts to wear while they cheer with us at one of our home games.

In my school, the cheerleaders get together on every Friday of the season and teach younger kids how to do simple cheers, mini pyramids, and a short dance routine. We (the J.V. squad) let them do their dance routine at half time of the last game of the season and let them do their cheers with us for the second half. It gets everyone excited and we charge for the lessons. We charge about $25 for the whole season. This fund raiser works because the parents think that it is extra practice for their kids. Try it and see it for yourself!
