STUNTS - intermediate
Safety Tips
1. ALWAYS have an advisor, coach or adult watching at all times.
2. If anyone feels uncomfortable or unsure about a stunt, don't do it.
3. Always be serious about what you are doing. If someone can't stop laughing, take a break.
4. Spotters and bases- never take your eyes off the flyer, they are trusting you.
5. Flyers- be sure that you have complete trust in your bases and spotters.
6. Be sure you're on a good surface. (Don't build on concrete, ouch!)
Extension Prep
Starting Position- Bases stand looking at each other. They should be about 15 inches apart. Flyer stands at bases' shoulders with her legs together. Spotter is behind flyer.
1, 2, HIT- On HIT bases feet jump out, knees bent and hands in front of themselves as if begging for money. Flyer places her hands on bases shoulders. Spotter holds flyer's waist.
1, 2, DOWN- On DOWN flyer bends at her knees.
UP- On UP flyer jumps into bases hands. Her arms should be locked, knees bent, feet flat and bottom up. By having her arms locked, flyer should be holding her own weight. Spotter, still holding flyer's waist, helps flyer jump into hands.
DOWN- On DOWN bases bend at their knees. They must have straight backs.
AND STAND- On AND bases use their momentum from going down to lift the flyer. Using mostly leg muscles, they bring their hands to their collar bone. As they do so, they turn their hands so that they are parallel with the flyer's foot, holding toe and heel. The flyer pushes off the bases shoulders and locks her legs as soon as she begins to rise. Spotter helps lift the flyer by holding her waist. When the flyer is too high to reach she holds onto the flyers ankles. On STAND the stunt should be in place.
Just A Few Tips- Flyer must squeeze every muscle during the entire stunt. She should pick a high point in front of her and never take her eyes off of it, even when she jumps into the bases hands. The bases should have straight back and use a lot of their leg muscles to lift the stunt. DO NOT use your back muscles, you can be seriously injured.
Note- Extension preps are a basis for a lot of stunts. Don't try anything more difficult until you have this stunt down.
Possible Dismounts:
Front Spot: Flyer holds front spot's hands. Bases close flyer's legs and drop. Back-spot rebounds flyer by lifting her up under her armpits.
Tight Drop: Flyer squeezes as tight as she can with her hands in a clasp. Bases close flyer's legs and drop. Flyer stays tight! Back-spot and bases grab flyer as if they were hugging her.
Cradle: Count 5, 6, 7, 8 On 1, 2 bases throw, remembering to use their shoulders and leg muscles and catch 3, 4, remember catch HIGH, and set out 5, 6 and clean 7, 8. Flyer rides it and then snaps into a pikes when caught. Back-spot catches under flyer's armpits. Back spot's legs should be apart, not in a lunge. If they are in a lunge, the flyer will land on the back spot's knee. That hurts!
Full Down: This is an advanced dismount.
Twist-Up
1. Bases prepare for an extension prep. The base on the flyer's left crosses hands, right OVER left.
2. The flyer stands IN FRONT of the bases (not behind as usual) and places her RIGHT foot in the LEFT bases hands. It feels awkward but it's right!
3. The flyer jumps, placing her left foot in the right bases hands and the left base twists her hands into normal position.
NOTE: You do need a front and back base for this stunt-- one for before the flyer is turned around and one for when she is facing front.
Re-Take
1. Starting from an extension prep, back-spot counts 1,2, down, up, down, up
2. On the first down, bases bend their knees and push flyer up to their noses. Flyer stays locked and back-spot holds flyer's calves.
3. On second down the bases bring the flyer back down to the start of extension prep. The flyer holds onto the bases' shoulders. She must not lean back! The back-spot holds the waist of the flyer.
4.On the second up the bases lift the flyer back up to shoulder position, the flyer pushes off the shoulders of the bases and the back-spot lifts the flyer up by holding her waist.
Note: This is one quick motion. It is not as slow as it sounds in these directions. This can also be popped up into an extension once the extension is perfected.
Shoulder Stand
Positions
Post: Stands with her back to the flyer and puts her hands, palms up, right above her shoulders. She stands with her knees bent.
Flyer: Stands right behind the post and puts her hand in the post's hands.
Base: Stands behind the flyer and holds the flyer's right foot in her right hand. She places her left hand on the flyer's shin. She stands in a crouched position.
1. The base counts ready 1, 2 and they all dip.
2. The base pushes the flyer's shin up with her left hand and grabs onto the flyer's left foot and places it on her shoulder along with the right foot and on other shoulder.
3. The base lifts the flyer's right foot straight up to her right shoulder as she pushes on the flyer's shin. The flyer locks and sticks her butt in the air while she is being lifted. The post pushes the flyer's locked arms up, to help the base hold some weight.
4. When the flyer is up and stable, the post can go around and hold the flyer's ankles to lift some weight.

Dismount: The post goes back around to the front of the stunt and takes the flyer's hands while the base dips and lifts the flyer's feet off her shoulders. She drops her in front of her catching the flyer on the her hips.
Basket Toss
1. Bases grab each other's wrists. Left base takes her left hand and grabs her right hand at the wrist, and the right base does the same. The left base grabs the right base's arm with her right hand, and the right base does the same.
2. The flyer jumps in, making sure to stand on her toes and keep her butt in the air (You can also use the other method where the flyer jumps in on one foot)
3. The back-spot puts her hands on the flyer's butt. The front base puts her hands under the base's hands.
4. The flyer pushes off the base's shoulders, as the bases and front spot flicks with their wrists, their hands fully extending the flyer into the air. The back spot pushes the flyer up.
5. The flyer focuses on something and rides it up, her arms in goal posts.
6.When she feels she's reached the top, she hits her jump (toe-touch, pike or tuck) remembering to snap her legs back, arch her back, and lean forward a tad.
7. As she feels herself falling, she snaps her legs back together, and the bases and spots catch high.
8. If you're doing a tuck, or pike, the flyer hits the jump at the top, then kicks her legs out, and is caught as normal. Other variations are x-out and back tuck (college only).
